Paintings & Art Crafts
I have painted from early age, taking classes on painting (acrylics & water colours), drawing and clay sculpting in my native hometown Bucharest. Later, I took lessons on Mexican paper mâché art craft, lithography and oil painting in the Netherlands where I lived for 8 years. My artworks focus on the expression of emotion using intense colour contrasts with different tonalities, as well as on combining painting with collages and paper mâché art. Dominant in my work is the constant preoccupation for detail and aesthetic. Fundamental themes such as time, love, life, death, nature, music, as well as ancient myths and symbols are some of my favourite painting topics... and there is usually a story behind each painting ...

Happiness in Harmony
Abstract painting – a wedding gift – representing chords and harmonies played by a mechanical heart floating on ocean’s blue. The heart is connected with three Chinese auspicious numbers: 6, 8 and 9. Love is like a puzzle game. Bride and groom (V&J) are reunited across oceans after living apart on different continents.

The Mandala: a journey towards fulfillment
A mandala (Sanskrit: मण्डल “circle”, “container of essence”) is a spiritual symbol representing the universe and the connection between our inner worlds and outer reality. It can be found in many cultures around the world and often symbolises the inner process by which individuals grow towards fulfilling their potential wholeness.
This mandala has 10 concentric circles containing letters, floral and geometrical patterns representing the person’s journey through life. The mandala is framed within the visible corners of an invisible square. This union between heaven (circle) and earth (square), invisible (yin) and visible (yang) represents the duality that creates the universe as “container of essence”
The center of the mandala depicts a tree with 13 roots (symbolizing 13 years) representing hard work (branches) and fruitful results (leaves). In the upper middle, branches embrace each other forming the shape of a heart: a sign that any true creation needs passion for ideas and love for people.
The mandala includes two circles with Chinese characters: the first circle describes the person’s true nature while the second circle reflects the image the person evokes in people’s hearts. Specific auspicious numbers (6 & 7), colours (gold & silver) and flowers (bleeding hearts) were used with a symbolic function: for ex., each Chinese character circle contains 6 words; similarly, circles have mostly 2×6, respectively 2×7 floral and/or geometrical patterns.
Ultimately, the art goal is to paint the visible to reveal the invisible. As such, this mandala was farewell gift intended as a proof of deep care and immense appreciation

Magical soul of an island
‘Deep inside the jungle forest lives the spirit of Pulau Ubin. Hidden from curious eyes, Pulau Ubin reveals its magical beauty only to those brave enough to travel deep inside the tropical forest to search for it.’
The roughness of the jungle forest depicted in the painting contrasts with the delicate, fine details of Pulau Ubin’s portrait reminding of the wilderness and primordial beauty of the untouched nature.
The painting was exhibited for a month and a half in the The Artists Village Gallery and was meant to support the fundraising project – Island as a Canvas – Pulau Ubin Artists-in Residency Programme. The residency program offers artists to stay in Pulau Ubin and work in close contact with the nature. The program provides artists with a unique working environment and in the same time, draws attention to the necessity of protecting Pulau Ubin’s nature from current rampant urban development trends.

Bird Story
‘On a Spring Sunday morning, a bird with short wings was running on the pedestrian competing with a bike rolling on the street. No matter how fast the bike was rolling, the bird was following. It couldn’t fly, but it could run…’
The bird is a symbol of hope and struggle in difficult conditions. Perseverance makes brown branches grow green leaves and comfortable nests. The painting was a birthday gift.

A Lebanese Oud
A small Lebanese oud – a stringed music instrument of approx. 50 cm height – was made using paper mâché, wire, natural glue and the back-side of a melon (to help forming the round oud shape). The picture shows the painted oud from different angles. The oud was gift for a graduation event.

Inima timpului
Inima Timpului (engl. The Heart of the Time) is paper mâché art craft inspired from the Mexican Day of Death (Dia de Muertos). It symbolises the love that continue to exits beyond death, through time and space. The painting was exhibited during a cultural event held in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. The event focused on art & culture from Morelia (Michoacán, Mexico) –Cultureel Programma “Van Morelia voor Nijmegen” and featured among others, works painted by my former painting teacher.

rain city
“In the old city town rain has never stopped. People walk along the foggy streets. A blurred horizon, diffuse light, grey melancholy … No one knows when the rain will ever stop… the future seems so uncertain. But one day in this city, love came to bring hope …

Mayan
paper lamps
Mayan symbols were delicately painted on crepe paper to serve as lamp shadows at a Mayan event organized by LA VOZ , the Latin American Student association of the University of Twente (The Netherlands). At that time, I was actively involved in the association acting as Activity Coordinator and member of the leading board.

Color Joy
Abstract painting symbolizing the joy of playing with colors. Having bought a new set of acrylics I was curious to test each color on canvas. I started to paint several shapes and fill each one with a different color. The result was a harmonious and joyful painting that was later donated for a charity event.

Fish in Japan
Japanese sunset landscape with swimming stream fishes and sea plants. Inspired from an old Asian legend, the painting tells the story of the brave koi fishes swimming upwards in the river to reach the top of the waterfall and become powerful dragons. It symbolizes the power of perseverance that enables even small beings, such as a fish to accomplish greatest achievements. The painted was donated for a charity event.

Margaritas
The painting represents the visualization of a dream with daisies. Daisies, called ‘margaritas’ (Spanish) or ‘margarete’ (Romanian) are smoothly falling from above. Daisies symbolize innocence and purity, but also new beginnings. They also foretell that happy times are ahead despite any potential dark obstacles (black vase).

Tulip
Tulips are a national symbol in the Netherlands. They look delicate and vulnerable, but have sturdy, flexible stems that enable them to resist the strong Dutch storms and winds. This lithography is dedicated to a brave little tulip that every year in spring came to visit me in the backyard blooming in beautiful read colors.
